Day 28

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 3, Lesson 3
1 step equations using multiplication and division
Just like we did with 1 step equations using addition and subtraction, we can do the opposite of the operations to isolate the variable. If it is a multiplication problems like 2 * x, then we can divide both sides by 2 to just have the x on one side. If the problem is like y / 4, then we can multiply both sides by 4 to isolate the y. REMEMBER, just do the opposite of the operation where the variable is!

Algebra: Chapter 3, Lessons 5 and 6
2 step equations with fractions, decimals and variables on both sides
As we’ve done before, strategize a way to isolate the variable on one side. By now the steps are:
– Analyze for fractions, decimals – multiply if required
– Distribute
– Collect like terms
– Add or subtract before you multiply or divide to isolate the variable

Go slow, show all work and you should have no problem. Realize that this stuff takes practice!
