Algebra: Chapter 2 TEST Today!

Intro to Algebra: Chapter 2-1

Definitions

  • Integers and the Number Line
  • Whole numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3 …
  • Integers: Whole numbers and their opposites (e.g., … -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 …)
  • Positive integers are to the right of 0
  • Negative integers are to the left of 0
  • 0 is neither positive or negative
  • < means less than
  • > means greater than
  • A mathematical sentence that contains an inquality symbol is called an inequality
  • On a number line, numbers increase from left to right
  • The ABSOLUTE VALUE of a number is its distance from 0 on the number line and we use the | symbol | to show absolute value.
  • The ABSOLUTE VALUE is always a positive value!
