Day 102

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 8-6

Slope – Day 2

Slope is defined as the (change in the y direction) ÷ (change in the x direction) or the rise ÷ run. If you know the change in the y and x directions by counting the squares on a graph paper, you can calculate the slope. A line rising from left to right has POSITIVE slope. A line descending (like a ski slope) from left to right has a NEGATIVE slope.
If you have 2 points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), you can calculate the slope with the equation slope m = (y2 – y1) ÷ (x2 – x1). Pretty simple so far!

Algebra: Chapter 6-4

Factoring x^2 + bx + c

In the polynomial x^2 + bx + c, recall that c is called the constant term or the constant. If the constant is not a perfect square, the trinomial cannto be factored into a square of a binomial. It can, however, be possible to factor it as a the product of 2 different binomials.

The BOX METHOD comes in quite handy and I would ENCOURAGE all students to try it out. IT WILL MAKE LIFE MUCH EASIER FOR YOU! Here is a link, not the same stuff I gave you on Friday to help answer your questions!

Another link is here from Purplemath, it too is pretty good at having examples!
