Day 91

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 7-8

Using the Metric System

King Henry Died Monday by Drinking Chocolate Milk!? This is a mnemonic for the conversion of lengths, weights or volumes in metric units.

  • K = kilometer (km), kilogram (kg), kiloLiter (kL)
  • H = hectometer (hm), hectogram (hg), hectoLiter (hL)
  • D = dekameter (dam), dekagram (dag), dekaLiter (daL)
  • M = meter (m), gram (g), Liter (L)
  • D = decimeter (dm), decigram (dg), deciLiter (dL)
  • C = centimeter (cm), centigram (cg), centiLiter (cL)
  • M = millimeter (mm), milligram (mg), milliLiter (mL)

To move from one to another, just move the decimal place of the number from left to right from top to bottom! or right to left from bottom to top! Pretty simple, huh! Click here for more!

Algebra: Chapter 5-10

Mulitplying Binomials – Special Products

There are 3 special rules for special binomials, these are shortcuts that can help save you some time from doing FOIL. FOIL works as well, but ….

(a + b) * (a – b) = a^2 – b^2

(a + b) * (a + b) = a^2 + b^2 + 2ab

(a – b) * (a – b) = a^2 + b^2 – 2ab

For example, (2x + 7) * (2x – 7) where 2x = a and 7 = b, we have an answer of (4x^2 – 49).

Another example, (2x + 7) * (2x +7) where again 2x = a and 7 = b, we have an answer of (4x^2 + 49 + 2*2x*7) or (4x^2 +28x + 49)!

Go slow and you’ll be fine. Remember, if all else fails, just FOIL!
