Day 89

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 7-6

Solving multi-step inequalities

We do exactly the same thing that we do with multi-step equalities. Make sure that we decide where to keep the variables if they are on both sides of the equality. I like to keep the variable on the side with its largest value. For example if the equation is 5m + 4 = 7m +12, then I’ll work to keep the variable m on the right side, the side with the 7m by subtracting 5m from both sides.

In an inequality, the ONLY OTHER RULE we have to remember is that if we multiply or divide by a NEGATIVE number, then we have to flip the SIGN of the inequality. A > becomes a <. Here are some examples.

Algebra: Chapter 5-8

Subtraction of Polynomials

We do exactly the same stuff as adding polynomials, except we add the opposite! We can do subtraction horizontally or vertically (in columns), whatever your preference. Remember, like yesterday, the terms MUST HAVE the same variables and the same exponents to the variables. Continuing from yesterday, here are some examples from PurpleMath.
